چکیده

An UPLC-UV-MS method was developed for the determination of curcuminoids and ar-turmerone from roots of Curcuma longa L., different species of Curcuma (C. zedoaria, C. phaecaulis, C. wenyujin and C. kwangsiensis) and dietary supplements that claimed to contain C. longa. The separation was achieved within 3.5 minutes using a C-18 column, a water/acetonitrile mobile phase, containing formic acid at a temperature of 35 ̊C. The method was validated for linearity, repeatability, limits of detection and limits of quantification. The limits of detection and limits of quantification of curcuminoids were found to be 0.01μg/mL and 0.03μg/mL, respectively. The total content of curcuminoids (curcumin, desmethoxycurcumin, bisdesmethoxycurcumin) was found to be in the range from 1.164.92% and 0.83-35.37% in samples of C. longa and dietary supplements, respectively. The curcuminoid content was 0.004% for C. zedoaria and 0.0006% for C. phaecaulis. The curcuminoids were not detected in root samples of C. wenyujin and C. kwangsiensis. The developed method is simple, economic, rapid and especially suitable for quality control analysis of curcuminoids. LC-mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization (ESI) was used for the identification and confirmation of compounds in various plant samples and dietary supplements.

Secondary metabolite profiling of Curcuma species grown at different locations using GC/TOF and UPLC/Q-TOF MS.

Curcuma, a genus of rhizomatous herbaceous species, has been used as a spice, traditional medicine, and natural dye. In this study, the metabolite profile of Curcuma extracts was determined using gas chromatography-time of flight mass spectrometry (GC/TOF MS) and ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC/Q-TOF MS) to characterize differences b...

Metabolomic and Lipidomic Analysis of Serum Samples following Curcuma longa Extract Supplementation in High-Fructose and Saturated Fat Fed Rats

We explored, using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) metabolomics and fatty acids profiling, the effects of a common nutritional complement, Curcuma longa, at a nutritionally relevant dose with human use, administered in conjunction with an unbalanced diet. Indeed, traditional food supplements have been long used to counter metabolic impairments induced by unbalanced diets. Here, rats were fed e...

Comparison of Anti-inflammatory Activities of Six Curcuma Rhizomes: A Possible Curcuminoid-independent Pathway Mediated by Curcuma phaeocaulis Extract

We aimed to compare the anti-inflammatory activities of six species of Curcuma drugs using adjuvant arthritis model mice. When orally administered 1 day before the injection of adjuvant, the methanol extract of Curcuma phaeocaulis significantly inhibited paw swelling and the serum haptoglobin concentration in adjuvant arthritis mice. Also when orally administered 1 day after the injection of ad...

Free radical scavenging activity and characterization of sesquiterpenoids in four species of Curcuma using a TLC bioautography assay and GC-MS analysis.

The sesquiterpenoids are one of major groups of antioxidants in Curcuma besides curcuminoids. However, the real substances contributing to the antioxidant activity are still unknown. In this paper, the antioxidant activity of sesquiterpenoids in four species and two essential oils from Curcuma genus was determined and compared based on TLC separation and DPPH bioautography assay. Their antioxid...

Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction of Natural Pigments from Rhizomes of Curcuma Longa L.

Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) was evaluated as a simpler and more effective alternative to conventional extraction methods for the isolation of curcuminoids from turmeric plant rhizomes. The turmeric samples were extracted under indirect sonication in an ultrasonic bath, and compared with the conventional methods. It was found that the yield of ultrasound-assisted extraction was approxim...
